17/04/2025 – The Women’s World Chess Championship once again pitted two Chinese GMs against each other: Ju Wenjun, titleholder since 2018, and Tan Zhongyi, the challenger and former 2017 World Champion (winner of the World Knockout Championship), before Ju Wenjun stole the title. After a draw in the first game, Tan Zhongyi took the lead by winning the second set. Ju Wenjun immediately countered by winning the third, then, after another draw in the fourth game, the world champion dominated the match head and shoulders, racking up four consecutive wins to lead 6-2 going into the ninth game. A simple draw was then enough for her to retain her World Championship title for the fifth time
